Congress ECOPorts Marseille
In March of this year DGMR participated in the ECOPorts Congress at Marseille. Around 120 people attended the congress. ECOPorts is a project subsidized by the European Union, with the view of harmonizing environmental management in ports and trading experiences with regard to this subject.
Subjects that came up in Marseille where:
port-city relationship;
waste recycling;
integrated environmental management in practice;
air quality and dust control;
noise mapping;
dredging;
sustainability in the logistic chain.
After the lectures, there was a visit to the Port of Marseille .
During this congress, a lot of attention was given to the proposal Noise Management in European Ports (NOMEPorts) initiated by the Amsterdam Port Authority.
In November 2004 this project was presented at the Life-program from the European Committee. This project demonstrates how to make noise maps and how to manage noise in harbours.
Around 10 harbours throughout Europe participate in this project. They vary in size and activities. Predictor, developed by DGMR and distributed through Br ü ell and Kj æ r, will be used for making the noise maps and as a management system for noise.
The part DGMR plays in this project is:
instruct the harbours about the use of Predictor;
consult about compiling noise data;
consult about making noise maps;
consult about solutions at acoustical obstacles
further develop the management system.
Ton van Breemen en Andre Blikman (both from the Amsterdam Port Authority ) and Rob Witte (DGMR) explained this project proposal at the Congress. Making these noise maps, we will use the knowledge achieved during the projects Harmonoise and Imagine.
