Vibration technology
More and more attention is being directed to the role of vibration control within projects. Vibrations are caused by both the built-up nature of our environment and by stricter requirements made of processes and products. The Vibration-technology group has the requisite knowledge and tools to solve vibration-related problems. DGMR is in a position to measure vibrations of all natures and to predict patterns. In doing this, we use finite-element methods to analyse the dynamic behaviour of buildings. Recommendations in the area of vibration control range from setting up relevant apparatus to whole constructions. In addition, we make predictions and monitor vibrations when constructing new buildings or demolishing existing buildings to prevent damage and nuisance.
Vibrations caused by road and rail traffic
Roads and railway lines may be subject to serious vibration problems. These problems must be divided into vibrations which can be felt by people and low-frequency sounds generated by vibrations. In underground railways, this low-frequency sound is notable due to the absence of air-borne sound, whereas this aspect is often given less priority in ground-level railways. DGMR can make an inventory and advice on possible measures to reduce the noise pollution.
